These delicious air fryer radishes make for a quick and easy low-carb side dish!
What do roasted or air fried radishes taste like?
If you’ve never tasted roasted radishes before, you may be surprised to learn that they taste remarkably like parsnips, only a bit more watery or juicy.
The cooking process removes the sharpness you may be familiar with from raw radishes, which can be a bit peppery.
Roasting transforms radishes into a whole different creature – you’d almost be surprised they’re the same plant!
Once cooked, radishes are quite mild and almost sweet. They can replace potatoes for a low-carb substitute with a similar texture, or you can try mixing them half and half for a lower-carb treat.
Even if you’re not the biggest fan of raw radishes, I encourage you to try them cooked. They just might win you over!
Radishes are a member of the cruciferous family, and, once cooked, they remind me a bit of another cruciferous vegetable, cauliflower.

What’s great about this recipe
Flavorful
These air fryer radishes are anything but bland! If you want to change up your usual vegetable side dish to keep dinner interesting, these are a great choice! You may even discover a new favorite!
Fast and easy
Just toss in oil and seasonings and air fry for 10 minutes! If you don’t mind the radishes being brown on one side and white on the other, you don’t even have to flip them halfway through.
Clean, simple ingredients
No need to run to a specialty store or use anything you can’t pronounce. Radishes are widely available at traditional grocery stores, and you probably have everything else you need!
Versatile
While roasted radishes have a lovely, mellow flavor by themselves, they have enough of their own characteristic taste to hold their own with stronger seasonings. Try including fresh rosemary (for low-carb rosemary potato substitutes) or garlic with parmesan.
Healthful, nutritious, and suitable for many diets
Radishes provide lots of antioxidants, including vitamin C, as well as iron, calcium, and potassium. They can help support healthy blood sugar levels and cardiovascular health.
In addition, radishes are naturally low-carb, paleo, gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, Whole30 compliant, and low in calories.
Are radishes keto friendly?
Yes!
Since radishes are so low in carbohydrates, they are suitable for carb-restricted diets such as keto.
Try these for your next low-carb side!

Variations on this recipe for roasted radishes in the air fryer + substitutions
I kept the seasonings for these air fryer radishes quite simple, and they are great that way.
That being said, of course you can experiment with adding additional seasonings, spice blends, and flavors for more fun, such as:
- Fresh garlic
- Grated parmesan cheese
- Crushed red pepper flakes
- Fresh rosemary
- Cajun seasoning
- Lemon pepper seasoning
- Lemon zest
- Onion powder
- Oregano
- Curry powder
Additional toppings for a loaded “potato” twist
Consider:
- Fresh chives
- Green onions (scallions)
- Sour cream and cheddar cheese
In addition, you could garnish these air fried radishes with chopped nuts or crumbled goat cheese for a more satisfying dish.
Can you make air fryer radishes with no oil?
For an oil-free version, replace the olive oil with lemon juice. Just note the radishes may not brown as much, and they may get a bit dried out. You could also spray on some cooking oil instead of using olive oil for a reduced-oil recipe.
Tips and Best Practices for this recipe
- Try to cut your radishes so the pieces are similar in size. For example, quarter large radishes, halve medium radishes, and leave the little ones whole. That way they cook evenly and are all done around the same time.
- For even browning, turn the radishes halfway through. This can also prevent burning.
- If you buy radishes with the greens still attached, you may want to separate them right away and use the greens within a day or two, as they will not stay fresh in the fridge as long as the radishes themselves will.
- As always, use all your senses when cooking. Air fryers can vary quite a bit in temperature, so just check the radishes before you think you’ll need to until you learn the exact cooking time for your appliance.
- Try not to crowd the basket so everything cooks evenly.
- You can add a squeeze of fresh lemon juice just before serving for even more flavor.
How can I make air fryer radish chips?
For crispy radish chips, slice the radishes in thin rounds rather than chunks. Coat with oil and seasonings, then lay them flat in the air fryer tray and cook at 375°F. Flip them every 5 minutes until they are done to your liking!
What if I don’t have an air fryer?
You can oven-roast radishes too!
Line your baking sheet with parchment paper or foil for easier cleanup and bake at 425F° for 15-30 minutes depending on how crisp or browned you like them. Flip the radishes every 5 minutes starting at the 15-minute mark until they look perfect!
What is the serving size of this recipe?
This recipe makes about 2 large servings, depending on appetite and what you are serving it with. Plan to double it or scale it up for larger gatherings.
What to do with leftover air fryer radishes
You can store leftovers (if you have any) in an airtight container or bag in the fridge for several days.
Try adding leftover air fried radishes to salads, omelettes or frittatas, or any kind of buddha bowl or grain bowl. You can also toss them in soup or stir-fry.
How to reheat leftovers
You can leave the radishes cold for salads or reheat them in the microwave for about one minute, or in the air fryer at 375°F for 3-4 minutes.
Alternatively, you could bake them in the oven at 350°F for about 10 minutes.
The texture will not be quite the same as when they are freshly air fried, but they will still be good.
Are radishes better cooked or raw?
Of course, everyone has their own preferences, and radishes are good raw and cooked, but I prefer them cooked now that I’ve tried them that way!
While I do enjoy raw radishes on occasion, I don’t eat much in terms of quantity and use them more as a garnish. I might eat a few sliced up in a wrap or dipped in hummus, but rarely more than four radishes at once – and often only two.
If you are trying to fit in one of your 2-4 cups of government-recommended vegetables per day, it may be more palatable to eat cooked radishes.
(You can click the drop-down table in the link above for details based on age, but generally women should eat 2-3 cups of veggies daily, and men should eat 3-4 cups.)
Are radishes healthier cooked or raw?
This article from the Guardian suggests that cooking can deplete some of the benefits of the antioxidants in radishes, like vitamin C.
I will also add that if you don’t like the taste of raw radishes, you are likely to eat a larger quantity of cooked radishes, so there would still be substantial benefits.
Can you eat radish greens?
Yes!
If you bought a bunch of radishes with the greens still attached, don’t just toss them! You can use them much like mustard greens or collard greens.
I just made a simple green salad for ease and speed, but you can also sauté radish greens for a tasty and healthful side dish or turn them into pesto.
In addition, if you keep vegetable scraps in your freezer to make into homemade vegetable broth, you can add radish greens to your next batch.
Are radishes healthier than potatoes?
Both of these root vegetables are nutritious and can be a part of a healthy diet.
Potatoes are higher in calories and carbohydrates, which makes them more substantial and filling.
Radishes, being lower in calories and carbohydrates, may be more suitable for those following a low-carb diet or trying to reduce overall calories.
How do you prepare radishes for cooking?
- First, if you bought radishes with greens attached, separate them so everything is easier to wash. Wash both the greens and the roots so you can use both.
- After washing, you may still need to scrub the radishes, and look for any dark spots that need to be trimmed off.
- Trim the very end and the stem from each radish if desired, although sometimes a good scrubbing is all they need.
Do you need to peel radishes before air frying them?
No, not at all!
The lovely color will brighten up your plate too, which is a nice perk!
Can you freeze radishes?
Radishes are best fresh, but if you need to freeze them because you just have too many, it is best to freeze them raw, and then cook them after they have thawed.
For best texture, try eating them fresh. Raw radishes will usually keep for a little over a week in the fridge.
How long should you air fry radishes? And at what temperature?
As always, it depends. Taste as you go so you know the perfect time for your air fryer.
With the size I cut my radishes (mostly halved), they were fully cooked in 10 minutes at 400°F in a Cuisinart tray-style air fryer, and then I cooked them a little longer so they’d brown, which I thought would dramatically change the flavor. It really did not, so next time I don’t think I’ll bother.
If you are wanting to reduce the cook time, you can cut the radishes into smaller pieces.
On the other hand, if you want to make sure they don’t burn, you could reduce the temperature from 400° to 375° and just cook them a few minutes longer.
Carbs in radishes
This recipe does contain carbohydrates, but not all that much.
One serving (half of the recipe) contains 99 calories, 8 grams of total carbohydrates, but also 4 grams of fiber, bringing the net carbs (carbs minus fiber) down to just 4 grams of net carbs.
(It also contains 2 grams of protein.)

Ingredients for Air fryer radishes
Before you begin, you will need:
EDIBLE INGREDIENTS
- 1 lb radishes (I grabbed a bunch with leaves that weighed 1.25 lbs in the store, but once I removed the greens and trimmed them, they only weighed .86 lb. You can also buy a 1 lb bag of radishes pre-trimmed to save time. If you have a 12 ounce bag, you can use a little less oil.)
- 1 Tbsp olive oil (or your preferred high-heat cooking oil)
- 1 1/2 Tbsp fresh chopped parsley (optional but fun and pretty)
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp pepper
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- Optional: garnishes like lemon juice or more fresh parsley
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT
- Air fryer (You can also bake radishes in the oven – just add a few minutes to the cook time.)
- Mixing bowl
- Measuring spoons
- Knife and cutting board
How to make air fryer radishes
- First, wash and trim your radishes, and slice them into evenly sized pieces. Then, mince your parsley.
- After that, toss all the ingredients in a bowl to coat the radishes, then lay them in the air fryer tray.
- Then, bake at 400°F for 10 minutes, flipping them halfway through. If you would like the outsides browner, you can reduce the temperature to 375° and bake for up to 7 1/2 additional minutes. However, the insides are fully cooked at 10 minutes and do not change much. (After 12 1/2 minutes they did not seem noticeably different than they were at the 10-minute mark.)
- If desired, squeeze some fresh lemon juice on top, then serve warm and enjoy!
