This easy and adorable teddy bear toast can help start your day off on the right foot in more ways than one!
The protein from the peanut butter and whole wheat toast can keep you or your little one(s) satisfied and focused, and additionally, the cuteness will pretty much force you to start your day with a smile!

Are you part of the 25%?
Did you know that nearly 1 in 4 adults in the US and the UK don’t eat breakfast?
While statistics vary (some studies suggest 15% is more accurate), a substantial percentage of adults skip breakfast, even those who consider it the most important meal of the day.
Among working adults, the percentage of breakfast skippers rises as high as 57%.
Of course, this teddy bear toast recipe makes for a fun and engaging breakfast for kids. After all, even picky eaters will have a hard time resisting a face this cute!
However, you might want to consider making a slice for yourself to help stay motivated to eat something healthy in the morning (instead of succumbing to a drive-through donut run).
By making breakfast more fun, you are significantly more likely to look forward to it and actually eat it!
Substitutions and variations on this recipe
Toppings
Of course, you can add or change the fruit toppings for a more artistic end result.
You could use grape halves or raisins in place of blueberries to save a trip to the grocery store if that’s what you already have, for example. (In fact, raisins make adorable and surprisingly realistic bear faces!)
For a red nose, use a raspberry, dried cranberry, or strawberry slice instead of a blueberry. (This also works for the insides of the ears.)
In addition, you could even use kiwi rounds for the ears and snout to add a tropical twist.
If you follow a lower-sugar diet where bananas might be too sweet, you can always use nuts instead to decorate the face. (Pecan ears would be undeniably cute, wouldn’t they?)
Furthermore, for a sweeter treat, use chocolate chips for the eyes and nose.
Nut butter or spread
Instead of peanut butter, any nut butter will work just fine here: almond butter, cashew butter, sunflower seed butter, hazelnut spread, etc.
You can also use orange marmalade or jam instead of peanut butter.
In addition, see the “Species” section for further topping substitutions like cream cheese.
Base
Instead of toasted bread, try a teddy bear waffle (see photo section below) or English muffin. (Here’s my vegan English muffin recipe if you want to try making them from scratch.)
With enough creativity, you could even use a bagel half.
How to Make different “Species” of teddy bear toast
Black bear teddy bear toast
Use Nutella instead of peanut butter.
Cinnamon bear teddy bear toast
First, spread butter on the toast, then sprinkle with cinnamon sugar!
Polar bear teddy bear toast
Use cream cheese or marshmallow fluff instead of peanut butter.
Honey Bear* teddy bear toast
Use honey instead of or on top of the peanut butter.
* Yes, honey bears are real! Although, you may be more familiar with these honey bears.
Teddy Bear Waffles
On the other hand, if waffles are more your style, let these pictures inspire you to use them as the base for your cute breakfast or snack!
How to Make this peanut butter Teddy Bear Toast Gluten-Free
Try decorating an apple round instead of toast, or be sure to purchase (or make!) gluten-free bread.
Storage
This recipe is truly best fresh. Leftover toast will get stale.
However, you can still pack the ingredients as a disassembled brown bag lunch.
No toaster? No problem!
Teddy bear open-faced peanut butter sandwiches anyone?
Tips
In order to keep the blueberry nose in place, add a dab of peanut butter to the back to help it stick to the banana slice.
You can spread your peanut butter or Nutella in a Mickey Mouse-type shape, like I did, or just a circle. The banana slices make sufficient ears all by themselves.
If you want to pre-slice the banana rounds, keep them in an airtight container and add some lemon juice to slow down the browning.
